Internship in dentistry

July 15, 2024, to July 14, 2025

Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM)
University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada

The Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) is accepting applications for a one-year veterinary dentistry internship, which is a graduate certificate program. Intern applicants must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent. Basic dental experience is preferable but not mandatory. This individual is expected to be highly motivated and have an interest in pursuing a veterinary dental residency position.

The internship’s goals are to develop advanced skills in clinical dentistry through involvement in the day-to-day operation of a dentistry specialty service. The intern will acquire hands-on experience in clinical examination and basic dentistry surgery of small animals, and the ability to participate in advanced dental procedures is common. The intern typically assists in student undergraduate laboratory and clinical teaching. The intern will have the opportunity to participate in faculty research projects and perform clinical research and publication. This internship is designed to provide the candidate with an advantage in the veterinary dentistry residency application process, allowing them to excel in their education. Specialty interns participate in up to one week of general emergency duty each month. The intern will not be required to perform on-call emergency services.

The WCVM offers a salary of $28,000 CAD and the intern receives professional liability insurance and a student health and dental plan. A WCVM bursary covers the intern’s licensing fees with the Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association as well as tuition and student fees. The intern receives three weeks of vacation organized with the dentistry faculty. Unused vacation time will not be paid out and cannot be taken during the program’s last week.
