Veterinary Pathologist
$97,175.34 - $123,151.67 annually + Veterinarian Qualification Differential (VQD) $10,000 for postgraduate education or training to the PhD or board certification level.

The Plant and Animal Health Branch supports the sustainability of animal and plant agriculture, while serving to protect the well-being of the people of British Columbia through surveillance, regulatory compliance, risk assessment and the development of strategies to address identified risks.

The Animal Health Centre protects human health with the timely and accurate diagnosis of diseases that transmit from animals to humans, in both the public health and the food safey sectors. This position provides leadership in the specialized field of veterinary diagnostic pathology, including as it applies to avian, mammalian and/or fish species.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Doctor of veterinary medicine, or an equivalent degree, from a university of recognized standing. AND,
    • Completion of a pathology residency program or equivalent experience; OR,
    • Master's degree in science or veterinary medicine (focused on pathology); OR,
    • Doctor of philosophy degree (PhD) in science or veterinary medicine (focused on pathology).
  • Two (2) years or more of relevant experience in veterinary diagnostic pathology.
  • Must be eligible to be licensed to practice by the College of Veterinarians in British Columbia or an equivalent veterinary licensing body in North America.
  • Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
    • A Doctor of philosophy degree (PhD).
    • Certification from the American College of Veterinary Pathologies or the European College of Veterinary Pathologists.
    • Experience in clinical practice; and/or,
    • Five (5) or more years of experience in veterinary diagnostic pathology.
