Western College of Veterinary Medicine

VETERINARY ASSOCIATE

Tired of working for a corporation with less autonomy than you would like? Are you a new graduate with a desire for mentorship and variety? Mills Veterinary Services is seeking a veterinary associate to join our growing 2.5 vet team.

We are located in the beautiful Okanagan valley just outside of Armstrong BC.

We currently provide service to horses and small animals, with the split being 30% equine and 70% small animal. The clinic is located on a rural property only 5 minutes from town, which creates an inviting atmosphere for visiting patients and clients. The North Okanagan region is a paradise for outdoor lovers with world class hiking, skiing, swimming, boating and mountain biking. We are a short drive from some of Canada’s best wineries and 45 minutes from an international airport in case a winter beach escape is your thing!

Our clinic is unique, offering high quality western medicine as well as in depth integrative care options. As a result we have a very high quality client base that makes practice more emotionally rewarding. Both full time veterinarians are certified in veterinary spinal manipulation therapy and TCVM acupuncture, and food/ herbal therapy is an important part of our practice. We have a small animal surgery suite complete with CO2 surgical laser and SA dental radiography, and offer digital radiography, ultrasound, in house blood analyzer and Imagyst system, Powerfloat, Lameness Locator, shockwave, cold and regenerative lasers, Prostride/ PRP, PEMF, and theraplate. Our equine area has stocks and a few stalls, as well as a sand arena + concrete pad for lamenesses. We do not have an equine surgery suite and do not offer hospitalization for small or equine patients overnight.

There is potential for the successful candidate to create a niche that suits their interests and skill set. Interest in basic small animal surgeries and medicine is important. We have access to referral facilities for advanced and emergency small animal surgery and medicine. Some small animal call will be required but we average 2-3 emergency callouts per week and can refer patients requiring hospitalization to the regional emergency clinic. No experience in integrative therapies is required but an interest in these modalities is an asset. If equine medicine is not your interest, it can be handled by other members of the practice. There are referral options for small and equine patients within 45 min, but we do offer limited on call services to our clients.

Wages/ benefits/ CE options are competitive and negotiable, and lifestyle considerations are important to the whole team. We are open to any level of experience and highly value finding someone who will be a good fit with the clinic culture and gets along with the team. There is a pet-friendly recently renovated suite available on property for rent if desired, and staff horses can be boarded on site as well.
