Western College of Veterinary Medicine

Associate Veterinarian (DVM or VMD), Mixed OR Small Animal

Our busy mixed animal practice (85% small, 10% bovine, 5% other large) in beautiful Livingston, MT is seeking another doctor (preferably mixed, will consider small animal exclusive) to join our team! We currently have 2.5 FTE doctors on staff. Located in south central Montana, with incredible mountain views and sitting just north of Yellowstone National Park! We have many wonderful outdoor opportunities both in town and just down the road. Only 30 minutes from Bozeman for larger city shopping, amenities, etc. but with a small-town atmosphere.

Colmey Veterinary Hospital was founded in 1950 and has provided veterinary services to the pets and livestock of Park County for over 70 years. We are an upbeat animal hospital focused on the care of our clients and their animals, and our clients are friendly and enjoy our family-like experience. The clinic currently offers routine health services, non-routine and illness visits, routine elective surgeries, dentistry, reproductive services and several non-elective or emergent surgeries for both small and large animlas. We are open Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM, with emergency on-call services provided on nights and weekends shared evenly between doctors on a rotating schedule. We are a well-equipped rural practice, including:

  • A full in-house laboratory which includes CBC/chem/T4 and a Zoetis IMAGYST system (AI fecals, urinalysis, dermatology and blood smears; same-day pathology review on cytology and blood smears)
  • Digital radiography, including a brand new x-ray table
  • 2 portable ultrasound units
  • Portable Silencer chute for ranch calls
  • Tonometry

We also offer shockwave therapy and are eager to expand our regenerative medicine offerings, so acupuncture and chiropractic certifications are greatly appreciated! We are also actively trying to grow our large animal practice so applicants with a strong interest in and/or a background of working with horses and livestock are welcome.

The ideal applicant will be comfortable practicing on a wide array of species (particularly dogs, cats and cattle with some equine and other livestock), or with a primary focus on small animal practice. Good communication skills and a high level of compassion are a must. We care deeply about our patients and clients and are looking for someone who wants to build lasting relationships with them. Experienced veterinarians are preferred, but we are absolutely willing to mentor the right person and happy to have a new grad as well. Current doctors include a 2020 grad (owner), a 2022 grad and the experienced, retired past clinic owner (part-time), so a new grad will have great resources to lean on and our doctors love to teach. We offer competitive compensation based on experience, with the possiblity of earning more based on production. We also offer a desirable benefits package and practice ownership is a possible option down the line for the right candidate.

Benefits offered include:

  • Montana VMA, AVMA dues paid for
  • DEA license paid for
  • AVMA PLIT professional liability insurance paid for
  • Health insurance (three plans to choose from: two HSA-eligible and one traditional)
    • HSA contributions may include employer match up to certain amount
