Research Interests

Dr. Forsyth's research interests lie with proteins that affect chloride ion transport through the apical membrane of secretory cells. Expression of the pClCa1 regulatory protein cloned in our laboratory increases apical chloride transport via both calcium-dependent and cAMP-dependent conductance proteins. We have evidence for effects of PClCa1 expression on ion transport activity of both CFTR and ENaC. Our findings in recombinant expression systems have recently been confirmed by others in human clinical studies.
