Bio Summary

Jose Alcivar is from Para-Brazil. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Uberaba (Uberaba- Minas Gerais, Brazil) where he completed his degree in the university's Faculty of Animal Sciences (zootechnics).

After graduation, Jose Alcivar spent some time working as a ranch manager in his country and in Canada with a focus on beef cattle operations. At the University of Saskatchewan, his research focuses on applying smart farm technologies and improving artificial reproduction programs in beef cattle.

Research Area(s)

Smart farm technologies are the integration of computer sciences into livestock operations. This research will involve animal and field work related to the application of software and devices, which are capable to evaluate and assess animal behaviour, with the objective of monitoring animals' health and performance.

The overall objective is to validate an artificial intelligence system, which can provide real time information to producers in support of operational decisions.
