Bio Summary
Kalli grew up on a mixed crop and livestock operation near Earl Grey, Sask. Her early experiences working with animals and working at the local veterinary clinic inspired her to pursue a career in animal science.
In 2021, Kalli began her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Animal Science) degree at the University of Saskatchewan (USask). Through her studies and her part-time job with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, she was involved in a variety of research projects. These projects sparked her interest in research and inspired her to pursue graduate studies. She graduated from USask in 2025 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Animal Science).
Kalli is pursuing her master's degree at USask, under the supervision of Dr. Diego Moya at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM). Her research focuses on bovine respiratory disease in feedlot cattle.
Research Area
Bovine respiratory disease (BRD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in feedlot cattle, posing significant challenges to the industry through reduced welfare and economic losses. BRD is a multifactorial disease resulting from the interaction between viral and bacterial pathogens, immune function and environmental stressors such as transportation.
Kalli’s research focuses on the characterization of behaviour and physiology traits related to chronicity and recovery of feedlot cattle with induced BRD. Her work evaluates the effects of BRD on behaviour, growth performance, rumen health and carcass traits of feedlot cattle to better understand its long-term impacts on animal health and productivity.
