Bio Summary
Dr. Carolina Emparanza is from Chile. After graduating from the Universidad Mayor Santiago, she worked at a thoroughbred breeding farm, servied as a veterinary officer in the Chilean Army and completed a year-long fellowship in equine internal medicine in Lexington, Kentucky.
Dr. Emparanza began a combined Master of Science (MSc)-residency program in equine theriogenology at the WCVM in 2025. Her research focuses on thyroid health in mares and foals as it relates to fetal programming.
Research Area(s)
The effect of nitrates and glucosinolates on iodine levels in horses. The overall research goal is to improve our understanding of how mare nutrition affects fetal health and development.
