Veterinary ophthalmology lecturer (two-year term)

Applications are invited from qualified individuals for a two-year term full-time special lecturer position in veterinary ophthalmology in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences. 

This position will have a 75 per cent clinical commitment and its primary focus will be the clinical teaching of undergraduate and graduate veterinarians in veterinary ophthalmology. Together, with undergraduate and graduate students, they will provide a clinical service in ophthalmology. In collaboration with the one faculty member in this discipline and a full-time, experienced technician in ophthalmology, this individual will incorporate recent disciplinary advances and teach related skills to undergraduates, graduates, and technical staff. 

For 25 per cent of their time, this individual will participate in teaching veterinary ophthalmology to undergraduates and graduate students as assigned. They will participate in the development of learning materials in collaboration with the faculty and participate in relevant service administration.

The successful applicant must be passionate about their discipline and able to communicate effectively, work collegially, and collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds. 

The Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM) is Western Canada’s regional college of veterinary medicine. The WCVM Veterinary Medical Centre is a state-of-the-art primary care and referral centre (AVMA and AAHA accredited) serving Western Canada. The ophthalmology service is fully equipped and includes the use of modalities such as anterior and posterior segment OCT, fluorescein angiography, b-mode ultrasound, ultrasound biomicroscopy, and corneal cross-linking. Dedicated exam rooms and a surgical suite are provided. Advanced imaging modalities such as PET-CT, MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, and nuclear scintigraphy are available on site.

We are seeking candidates who have a DVM degree or its equivalent and are eligible for a general license to practice veterinary medicine in Saskatchewan. Applicants should have ACVO or ECVO board certification.  Applicants who have completed a ACVO or ECVO approved residency will be considered. 

Interest and experience with exotic pets are desirable. A demonstrated interest in teaching is required. 

Salary bands for this position for the 2023-24 academic year are currently being negotiated but at present are as follows:

Special Lecturer — $99,945 to $163,766
