Shannon Toy

After graduating from veterinary school, Dr. Shannon Toy attended the University of Saskatchewan where she completed a one-year clinical internship in zoological, exotic and wildlife medicine at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine (WCVM). After completing her graduate certificate program, she worked as a veterinarian at the Calgary Humane Society.
Dr. Toy then started an internship at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo and subsequently completed a two-year fellowship at the same institution. Dr. Toy has a special interest in anesthesia and analgesia of all species.
Dr. Toy's research focuses on the cardiorespiratory effects of sedation with a combination of alfaxalone-midazolam-hydromorphone in comparison to dexmedetomidine-midazolam-hydromorphone before isoflurane anesthesia in healthy rabbits.
