Vet Micro UnderGrad Poster Award Winners

Vet Micro Summer Students Sarah Vancuren and Sasha Ross were winners at the recent WCVM Undergraduate Summer Student Poster Days

Vet Micro Undergraduate Summer Students Sarah Vancuren and Sasha Ross placed first and second, respectively, in the Microbiology category at the recent WCVM Undergraduate Summer Student Poster competition.  The competition is held annually, and highlights the scientific research conducted by summer students throughout the college.

Sarah, currently a 3rd year Computer Science student majoring in Bioinformatics, was supervised this summer by Dr. Janet Hill.  Sarah's research centered around the role of Gardnerella vaginalis in the vaginal microbiome.  Sasha, a second year DVM student, spent the summer researching wolverines and their role in the ecology of parasites in the north, under the supervision of Dr. Emily Jenkins.  Sasha's research included a month of field work at Karrak Lake in Nunavut.

Congratulations to all the Vet Micro summer students who participated, and thanks for a great summer of research in the department.
