Research Interests

Zoonotic viruses and comparative immunology:  The objective of my project is to study virus and host interactions in bats. Bats are the only flying mammals and they account for more than 1400 different species across the world. A key feature of these fascinating animals is that they can asymptomatically endure viral infections that otherwise can cause serious consequences and even death to other mammals, including humans. Uncovering the intrinsic mechanisms that allow them to do that will play a key role in environmental and animal protection, development of effective antiviral treatments, and better preparedness for future pandemics.
