Profile

Dr. Loki Snyman is the curator of Invertebrate Zoology at the Royal Alberta museum, Edmonton. Loki is originally from South Africa where he completed his postgraduate studies focusing on insect taxonomy and systematics.  His current research interest is mostly focussed on haematophagous arthropods and the role they play in pathogen transmission. As systematist and curator his multidisciplinary research profile is honed to disseminate foundational biodiversity information to both public and scientific communities. Apart from his interest in vector biology and biodiversity, he has a pronounced interest in lacewing biology, systematics, and diversity.

  • Spatiotemporal distribution of mosquitoes in Canada and the role they play in pathogen transmission
  • Utility of molecular markers as identification tool for ticks in Canada
  • Horsefly systematics and evolution and the role they play in pathogen transmission
