Western College of Veterinary Medicine

About the Opportunity

No prior swine experience required  •  Mentorship provided  •  Path to ownership available

Swine medicine doesn't get much airtime in veterinary school — most students never see it up close, and that unfamiliarity can make it feel out of reach. It isn't. At Premier Swine Health Partners (PSHP), we've built a career around it, and we're looking for a veterinarian ready to build one alongside us — whether you arrive with swine experience or none at all.

A Practice Built Around Our People

PSHP is a five-veterinarian swine practice based in Southeast Manitoba, supported by a production team and a full office and pharmacy staff. We work almost entirely within an 8-to-5 window. Genuine emergencies are rare, after-hours farm calls are rarer still, and any evening or weekend work is a personal choice, not an expectation. Colleagues describe it less as a job and more as a lifestyle — one where a career in food-animal medicine doesn't come at the cost of a full life outside of it.

Our Vision

We champion the success of food animal agriculture through loyalty, teamwork, innovation, integrity, and unparalleled service, alongside farmers to feed the world and impacting the lives of people we may never meet.

That vision guides how we practice: with teamwork and integrity, in service of the farmers and communities who count on us, using knowledge and innovation to help them raise healthier pigs and produce great pork sustainably.

Who We're Looking For

We welcome veterinarians at any career stage — recent graduates, experienced practitioners looking for a change, or anyone simply curious about swine medicine. Prior swine experience is an asset, not a requirement. New associates join a structured mentorship track alongside our current team of five veterinarians, learning what they need to succeed in this species and in our practice. We've also long welcomed veterinary and pre-veterinary students for early-career exposure to swine practice, so if that's how you first found us, you're in good company.

For the right person, this role can grow into a path toward practice ownership.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary is competitive with other livestock practices
  • Full continuing education (CE) allowance
  • Vehicle provided or paid mileage if you prefer to use your own vehicle
  • Relocation assistance and signing bonus available
  • A predictable, largely daytime schedule with rare emergency or after-hours farm calls
  • Mentorship and support from an experienced team of five swine veterinarians
  • Opportunity for future practice ownership
