Western College of Veterinary Medicine

Overview

Veterinary medicine is an incredibly rewarding profession when you’re working with the right team.

At Sunrise Veterinary Clinic, great medicine, supportive colleagues and a bit of daily laughter are the secret sauce that make our clinic a place people genuinely enjoy.

Who we are

We’re a privately owned small animal and exotics clinic in the beautiful Comox Valley — a place where you can finish work and be on a mountain, trail, or ocean within minutes.

Our approach is simple:

• practise excellent, thoughtful medicine
• communicate clearly and kindly with clients
• support each other as unique, growing professionals
• take real lunch breaks
• laugh regularly (veterinary medicine provides plenty of material, usually when you least expect it)

We believe strongly in low-stress handling. Sedation, trazodone and gabapentin are valued members of our team.

Many of our team members have been with us for years, and we work hard to make Sunrise a place people genuinely enjoy staying.

We are not corporate. There are no production quotas and no performance charts taped to the fridge.

Just good medicine and good people doing the work well.

The position

We’re hiring a part-time associate veterinarian (three-plus days per week). Days are flexible.

You’ll see a varied caseload that includes:

• wellness and preventive care
• internal medicine
• dentistry
• soft tissue surgery (if you enjoy it)
• exotics (basic care — we’re happy to mentor in this area)

If you love surgery — wonderful.
If you love medicine — equally wonderful.
If you enjoy a balance of both — perfect.
If you're nervous around birds — don't worry … our amazing RVTs are very skilled at restraint.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys practising thoughtful medicine and working as part of a supportive team.

Our RVTs and assistants are highly skilled and encouraged to use the full scope of their training, so veterinarians can focus on the work that truly requires a veterinarian.

We believe good medicine requires time, so our scheduling is designed to allow veterinarians to think, communicate, and work cases up properly.

Special invitation

If you’re currently a farm or equine veterinarian and have been thinking about transitioning back to small animal practice, we would genuinely love to hear from you.

We understand that kind of transition takes mentorship, patience, and a supportive team. If you're thinking small animal medicine but feel hesitant about making the leap — let’s talk.

Compensation and benefits

• Strong, transparent compensation ($140,000 – $180,000 full-time equivalent, depending on experience)
• CE allowance and professional dues
• Extended health, dental, and optical benefits
• Flexible scheduling
• Realistic appointment scheduling
• Ownership opportunity for the right long-term fit

Yes — ownership.

We believe the best practices are built by people who care about the long term.

Who you are

You might be someone who:

• communicates clearly and kindly
• is comfortable making medical decisions
• enjoys collaboration
• values a healthy team culture
• has a sense of humour (essential at Sunrise)

We value curiosity and thoughtful discussion, and we enjoy learning from one another as cases challenge us.

New graduates are welcome if you’re confident and coachable.

Experienced vets who are tired of chaos? You might feel very at home here.
